Egypt is not one: Where and why the ancients built the pyramids
Everyone knows about the famous pyramids of Egypt. Thanks to their huge size and amazingly accurate engineering, it seems that these otherworldly artifacts just grew up in the desert. But the pyramid is a fairly common form to which ancient and modern builders resorted to creating impressive structures. We give examples of 10 lesser-known pyramids, which deserve no less attention than those that were built in Giza.
1. Pyramid “Helmets of the First World War”

Pickelhaube (or pickelhaube) – a pointed German helmet of soldiers of the First World War, became a collective image of enemy invaders, which can often be found in comedies. When World War I ended, the victors wanted to create a symbol to demonstrate their triumph. As a result, it was decided to build a pyramid of captured German helmets in New York. Continue reading

In the daily arsenal of modern man there are a lot of various inventions that make his life much easier. And few people think that many of these things appeared in one form or another several thousand years ago. Of course, they looked somewhat different, but the functions were performed by all the same as today.
1. Greenland Fur Thong
The clothes were rather “modest” throughout history. But it turns out that modern thongs have existed for a surprisingly long time, and the Greenland Inuits have been wearing them for several hundred years. “Naatsit” are traditional thongs, but made of … leather and fur, and sewn with whale tendons or yarn of deerskin. They were usually decorated with beads and worn as underwear for both men and women.

The Inca Empire originated in the 11th century and was the largest state in South America. It united the Indians over a large area – from the modern city of Pasto in Colombia to the Maule River in Chile; at the end of its existence, the empire covered an area of up to two million square kilometers.
